Re-Enterprise.

Business enterprises move at speed, headlong towards becoming organisations.  Sometimes this is deliberate, often it just happens. Sometimes with benefits, but almost always damaging the very spirit with which the enterprise was created. Sometimes it is best for enterprises to just ‘be’, and always good for organisations to get the ‘spirit’ back and ‘become’ enterprises once again!

For Value. Mindful. Holistic.

Explorations are not static. The more we seek, the more we find. Answers unravel. Solutions emerge. More thrill. Newer pathways, meanings, insights.

Books say a lot, thanks to words. Pictures say more. The feel adds touch to it. Sound would take it to another dimension. Wish we find ways to put smell, taste and smiles into it.

Re-create experiences. Create newness. Experience reading.

That’s what this book is about.

The market never sleeps. Investors always want more, better, faster. As customers, we want even more, more better, more faster…. and never mind the grammar.

Unhindered.

No limits. Ever increasing, ever improving consumers, customers, investors, markets, societies … all throbbing, pulsating, boundless entities, ever-changing and with seemingly a life of their own.

Life-givers to the planet.

Their needs are the life-source … at the very core of any business.

The very reason-to-be for enterprises and industry.

These needs, demand the creation of a ‘provider’ that will adapt, change, and morph and constantly ‘be’ together in a ‘live’ throbbing ecosystem. To address these needs.

Enter the entrepreneur.

Drawing inspiration and strength from the eco-system. Entering with all the energy,  vigour, vitality, and vibrancy required to cater to the needs of the pulsating entities within the community eco-system. Like any living organism in a symbiotic world.  Instinctive, sensitive, holistic. This spirit of the enterprise helps break out of inertia,  launch the business and get going.

However, unlike the world of organisms, the ‘human’ world has learnt to become artificial. We create forms and formalities. Some of these require the organism-like entrepreneur to quickly take the form of a Company … and by definition limited”.

This is simply the more complex part of the new thinking required.

One of the most gratifying moments was when a twenty something rejected an offer because she wanted ‘more’. Nothing new, you say? Read on …

“I have read the PD (profile document, position-description. Whatever). But I can do so much more. I want to bring all of myself to work. Why can’t you use more of me? And know what? It comes free”. She said.

So the job-rejection was not about an inadequate offer (as we commonly understand it, ie money). It was rejection based on the employer’s inability to offer anything more than a job. The slogan ‘we offer more than a job, we offer a career’ is good. A sincere attempt to leverage the person over the long-term. But that was in the nineties (or was it eighties?).

This was different.

“Why should I only analyse spread-sheets? What about my view on how products taste? I like ads and music; why can’t I say what the jingle should be like? Why are we involved in the motor-grand-prix, and not women’s badminton; Local not global? If everybody has a view on how my ‘numbers’ (performance) look, I should have a say on how everything looks!”

The list went on.

Are you not worried about not being employed?

“No. Not at all”. Was the reply.

Blessed are we, that we have people like this… more and more… who are not willing to be herded like sheep, blinkered like horses, strapped like donkeys and put on rails!
